Moving Beyond the Hijab

Yes, I have decided to change the name of my blog from 'Digging for Knowledge' to 'Not Just Another Hijab Blog.' I have nothing against hijab/fashion blogs, in fact I follow a few myself. However, as a Muslimah, I find that the discussion amongst and about Muslimahs is much too often about hijab.

What is the correct hijab? To hijab or not to hijab? What colors are acceptable for women? How much of a woman has to be covered? What does hijab say about a Muslim woman's faith? What age to start our daughters wearing hijab? What are the latest hijab fashions?

All of these questions are quite valid, and a mountain of opinions are floating around the web on these topics. So, I just wanted to let everyone know that this is NOT just another hijab blog, because there are enough of those. My blog is to wander and explore a variety of topics; everything from faith to history to current events.

So, I thank all of you for being interested in reading a blog that is NOT centered around the way Muslim women dress :)

Judge Not!

As-Salamu `alaykum.
Hijab is obligatory for Muslims women; nowadays there are many Hijab styles and its look very good, if a Muslim women dress in a good style Hijab, then this dress attract the women who did not use Hijab. There are many Quranic verses and Ahadith about Hijab that, explain the importance of Hijab. Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu`alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The best of your women is the affectionate, the fertile, the comforting, the agreeable — if they fear Allah. The most evil of your women are those who expose and display themselves, and those who strut (to show off) and they are the hypocrites. Those who enter al-Jannah (the Paradise) are like the red beaked crow.” [Al-Bayhaqi].

Alhamdulillah, thank you for contributing your comment. I am in no argument with you. Outer hijab as well as inner hijab are both very important. I would just like to see more focus on evolving the charecter of the Muslim woman, and not just the dress. Sometimes, there is so much discussion revolving around proper hijab, and very little discussion about matters of pleasing Allah through good deeds and worship.

The blog right under this one may appear to be about the niqab, but I'm actually attempting to drive home the same point: Empower our sisters with knowledge of the deen first and foremost. Most siters who are knowledgable in Islam WANT TO COVER FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAH.
